What wetsuit thickness should you choose?

Wetsuits are measured in millimeters, such as 3/2, 4/3, 5/4 or 6/5. Generally, thicker neoprene provides better insulation, but materials, seams and construction also affect how warm a wetsuit feels.

• 3/2 mm – for warmer water and summer conditions
• 4/3 mm – works well during summer and early autumn in Sweden
• 5/4 mm – for colder water and late autumn or early spring
• 6/5 mm – for cold water and winter conditions in Sweden

With a 4/3 mm and a hooded 6/5 mm wetsuit, you're equipped to surf year-round in Swedish conditions. Add wetsuit boots and gloves when the water gets colder.

Fit, warmth and flexibility

A good wetsuit should fit snugly without restricting movement. Modern materials provide high flexibility while maintaining warmth.

Beyond thickness, you are paying for how much development has gone into the thermal lining and stretch of the wetsuit. Higher quality materials result in a warmer, more flexible and more comfortable wetsuit – especially during longer sessions in cold water.

Details such as sealed seams, thermal lining and zipper construction also affect both warmth and comfort.
